i left, a dreamer
Performance, Mixed Media and Acrylic on Canvas

Participants:
Jacqueline Bahnsen, Christopher Jiles Jr., Elenora King, Tsz Yeung Kong, Qhris LoCasto, Jasmine Yeh
I created a choreography and set of instructions for an overnight collective experiment with emergent cultural systems. We began with a guayusa tea ceremony to dig deep into our dream memories. That was followed by a social dreaming matrix, which is one way of addressing the underlying trends and symbols inherent to our culture. After the social dreaming matrix, I left the group with more instructions in brown cardboard boxes. The participants were responsible for interpreting and enacting the instructions. At the end, the group was asked to select portions of their work to display.
The next morning, I returned to select portions of the remnants for display in Dolly Maass Gallery. When asked to describe, in detail, what happened that night, the undergraduates collectively wrote:
i enter, dry-mouthed and soft-skilled
i leave, with tea-soaked tomorrows,
heavy with dreams

In keeping with the themes of dreaming and the subconscious, the canvases hanging are unaltered remnants from their experience and the larger piece is a portion of their work the participants consciously chose not to show.
